RADIOGRAPHIC DEMONSTRATION OF INTERCOSTAL LYMPHATICS AND LYMPH NODES

Abstract

The anatomy of the posterior intercostal lymphatics and lymph nodes is reviewed. Theselymph nodes are occasionally visualized by bipedal conventional lymphography. Opacifiedand/or enlarged posterior intercostal lymph nodes may also be identified with computedtomography of the chest. Familiarity with the lymphatic drainage patterns of the intercostalspaces and recognition of abnormal intercostal lymph nodes may provide additional informationregarding disease status in patients with inflammatory or malignant disease of the thorax.
